While you may send the data to the ClickaPost API directly as raw XML, the server also understands both POST and GET HTML methods. This also comes in quite handy if you want to test your XML files without much programming.

While most will be satisfied with simply posting to ClickaPost, others (especially Real Estate agents), might like the ability to update their posts.

Fear not, ClickaPost API already has this integrated!

There's not much science to it, just make sure you use the <customId> optional field with every post you submit, and Post Updates will happen automatically.

Posting your listings directly to ClickaPost, as noted in section 1 above, is a task that requires a little more know-how and it’s mostly intended for those who wish to submit the data directly to us more than once a day, as well as for those who are making applications which need to interact with ClickaPost at all times.

What happens after the XML file is processed

One should be aware that accepted posts will not show up immediately on ClickaPost. When your XML is parsed, all accepted posts as noted in the XML response back to you are put in queue to be processed. They may sit in the queue for even up to 15 minutes depending on the number and file size of both images and videos your posts may contain. ClickaPost runs through this queue constantly, first getting any of your files (images/videos), converting any…

When the system is done processing your XML data it always returns an XML response back which you may either choose to look at, store, or even parse within your application for further automation.

The XML Response ClickaPost’s API generates in return may look similar to this:

The STRICT Tag and default behavior

ClickaPost’s Server is VERY loose when it comes to the data it receives. If any of REQUIRED fields are missing – the post saving will fail by default, however, if there is anything wrong with the OPTIONAL data you provide (an ID, state name, city name, etc.) the system will automatically try to compensate for this by either guessing the correct value or removing it completely.

Here’s some info on REQUIRED fields (besides the <auth> and <token> mentioned before). If <auth> and <token> are not present, or are found to be invalid - the whole post request will fail. However, if any of the following required fields fail, only that particular POST will not be saved to the ClickaPost database.

XML Post Requests

To receive the data, a well formed XML file is expected by the server. While most of the variables are OPTIONAL some of them are always required and besides a well formed XML file – two are essential.

ClickaPost API is implemented as vanilla XML over HTTP using raw XML (see sending via curl), or via either POST or GET (in which case you want to send your XML data in a variable with a name of "xml").

Getting Started with ClickaPost API (FAQs)

While the documentation contains everything you need to know, sometimes, the most basic questions lack answers.

Here are some of them (with the answers, of course):

	* What's an API?
 * API stands for Application Programming Interface, and it allows users, applications and services to interface with ClickaPost.

With over 400 different categories and subcategories it can get a little bit complicated understanding the XML Get Method which returns a list of categories.

The easiest way to understand this type of data is by looking at a Tree-View, which you may access at <http://api.clickapost.com/categories.php>.
